Juventus striker Marco Mandzuka is set to miss the World Cup in Russia due to a thigh injury sustained during the World Club Cup in Japan.
The 25-year-old is out for a “probable” month with the hamstring problem that forced him to leave the field for a World Cup qualifier against Sevilla in January.
Mandzukics club confirmed on Friday that the midfielder will miss up to six weeks with the injury.
He was a member of the Italy squad that reached the semi-finals of the tournament and will join Juventus in Russia after being sent off in the second half of the 2-2 draw against Atlético Madrid in Turin on Wednesday.
“I have no further information to share, I have been informed,” a Juventus statement read.
The statement added that Mandzuki is “in a serious condition” in hospital and “he is in a serious but stable condition”.
